The redesign of Washington Hospital's 30-year-old cafeteria turned a drab institutional space into an attractive servery and dining room. The design emphasizes separation between the bustling servery and the dining area, where a coffered acoustical ceiling creates a quieter, more intimate atmosphere.
The L-shaped, 7,500 square foot servery was converted from a traditional cafeteria-line system into a "scramble" system featuring a new short-order grill. The Solan Center's restaurant-like atmosphere is a comfortable haven for visitors and staff. In the landscaped courtyard, space heaters provide an al fresco setting for diners year-round. This fast-track project was designed and constructed in seven months to be ready for the hospital district's 50th anniversary.
