Only 13 minutes to see a doctor in an Emergency Room? Unbelievable as it may sound, the new ECH Emergency Department achieves this average wait-time due to its "rapid medical evaluation model" in which a physician participates in the triage process. The triage area, located immediately adjacent to the waiting area, allows easy physical and visual access to patients and their families, thus facilitating efficient through-put. The waiting area offers patients and families views to gardens, multiple seating groups to accommodate families, a distinct play area designed for younger children, and easy access to the rest of the hospital. All of the 27 beds in the department are private, including a 10-bed clinical decision/observation unit.
