Catellus Development Corporation sought a San Francisco headquarters to reflect its new strategic direction under a new management team, as well as its new corporate identity as a leading West Coast real estate company. The new 50,000 square foot facility was shaped to serve its occupants as a unified and progressive environment that promoted corporate awareness and intra-office communication, even though it is split on two irregularly shaped floors.
Strong architectural forms, subtle colors, and visual points of interest create an attractive yet cost-effective solution. A sculpted internal stair that rises between two existing structural beams encourages interoffice communication and a sense of connectedness. Bridges on these beams offer dramatic views of the floor below while providing entries to conference rooms.
